Student's rendition of gospel song lands atop music charts

Criminal justice major Briana Babineaux has landed atop “Billboard� magazine’s music charts.

Her digital EP, or extended play, version of the song “I’ll Be the One� debuted at No. 1 in the “Billboard� category for digital gospel recordings.

The magazine’s charts, across a range of musical genres and categories, are widely recognized as some of the most prestigious in the industry. Its digital recording category reflects the most downloaded songs.

The 20-year-old, who is also known as Bri, began singing at age 3, at Refuge Temple Ministries in Lafayette.

Videos of Babineaux singing that were posted on YouTube recently led to a recording contract with Marquis Boone Enterprises, according to a release from the Atlanta-based company.
